AUTOBACS SUPER GT SERIES --- ONE OF FASTEST IN THE WORLD
The Autobacs Super GT Series --- formerly known as Japan GT --- can now boast as having one of the fastest speeds in any “Hako” (GT Sedan type) racing in the world.
Now in its 11th year, the series features not only the best in GT – type motor racing but also has a great variety of participating car models with 13 companies represented, according to Satoru Tsuyama, its Pacific Rim Region Manager.
Satoru, who is in Kuala Lumpur to promote Round 3 of the eight-round series said the companies who are represented in the 2005 series are: Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru), ASL (Garaiya), Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Vemac, Chevrolet, Mosler and Lotus.
With regard to car manufacturers, he said they are no fever than five countries represented --- Japan, Germany, Italy, Great Britain and the United States.
There also manufacturers and supplies of fuel, lubricants, tyres and car parts and auto accessories from a host of countries worldwide involved.
He said: “ Among those car manufactures are Toyota, Nissan and Honda who use the series for racing development of its respective production models.
“ Toyota’s Supra, Nissan’s Fairlady 350Z and Honda’s NSX entered in the GT500 class all feature works operations especially dedicated to the development of the models”, he said.
He said with the manufacturer commitment in advanced technology, the Super GT series could now boast the highest of speeds in any “Hako”
Type-racing series worldwide.
The organizers of the series, now the most popular motor racing event in Japan, have also introduced regulations that permit a “ great degree of latitude when it comes to car modification” thus bringing up a high level of performance in each race.
With regard to regulatory modifications, he said that while they were strict it also contributed to a “unique balance, prompting participation of a wide range of models in the series”.
He said the regulations aimed at providing “closely-fought battles” in each race that there is always a new team winning in each race.
The series now also attracts non-Japanese drivers, including those with F1 experience and works teams.
Round Three of the series will be held at the F1 Sepang Circuit on June 24 to 26, where a total of 19 cars in the GT500 and 24 cars in the GT300 will compete.
Added to the attraction of the series is the presence of over 100 gorgeous GT queens
