Umno scenario analysis
June 26, Screenshots called for scenario analysis after Umno No. 3, vice president Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, was taken down for involvement in vote buying.
A reader who goes with the nick An UMNO Dato’ comes up with his personal observation - which does not represent that of Screenshots.
Is the media’s and Pak Lah’s effort in trying to say that Isa’s suspension has nothing to do with conspiracy, convincing enough? The answer is No.
People do not take it as a genunie effort to weed out political corruption because:
1. Other candidates, winners or losers in the last UMNO election should also be hauled up, taken that so many of them have been known to practice money politics.
2. The decision by the deciplinary board seemed hasty and amazingly taken on a fast track basis.
3. Isa is seen as the least risky ‘scapegoat’ by virtue that he is a a non PM or DPM material and having little following like, say, Ali Rustam or Khir Toyo who have the youth organisations behind them - though I am not implying that they are guilty of money politics.
4. Isa is not known as a fighter and therefore action against him would unlikely meet with fierce resistance.
5. The ‘fast track’ action seems to appear as Pak Lah’s line of defence against any possible onslaught in the coming UMNO General Assembly in view of his ‘slow move’ to eliminate elements of money politics. Therefore someone ‘with least threatening character’ has to be the ‘sacrifical lamb’.
These are now talks in the market, selected on most logical basis.
Meanwhile, Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is equally doubtful of Umno's ability in weeding off money politics. He says the crackdown on the corruptors by the Umno disciplinary board is "ineffective and will not resolve the problem".
"Why take action against (Tan Sri Mohd) Isa (Abdul Samad) only? Why the winner only? What about all the losers who also used money, including those who contested for the supreme council seats?" he asked.
"Whichever way you look at the actions and problems, the majority of members will still see the board's action as selective prosecution," he said in a press conference at his Jalan Langgak Golf residence on Monday.
Ku Li's cure-all prescription might interest Muhyiddin Yassin.
